As far as the graphic description of the genitalia. I think it's too much and possibly takes away from the impact of the more important psychological stuff going on. Can we tone it down by half or something? If not, that's OK, but I really think as it is it's rather jarring. But that's just me.
I was born in Portland. Never really lived there since we moved to Europe when I was 6 months old. But we used to go back a lot. Now, not so much. Love Powells! Bought a copy of Thomas Wolfe's LOOK HOMEWARD, ANGEL there and gave it to a girl I had a fling with before moving on. Long story...which I made short.
Do you have someone whose judgment you trust who could read both versions, the one with the graphic descriptors of Elias's erection and the one without and ask them which one is better? I really think it's unnecessarily graphic as it is now and detracts from the more important messages being conveyed. That being said, there may be a happy median as I suggested in last night's message. Perhaps an extra sentence is warranted but an entire paragraph devoted to it is overkill to me.

I agree with your judgement.
I am attached an ms doc of a 4th (and final? probably as I think you will like it) rewrite.
I've made adjustments re: the penis/erection description.
Let me know and a big thank you!,

Hey, this has been an awesome collaboration! Just what we both idealized it could be when we signed up for this mostly thankless drudgery called Art. It's been a great pleasure and I'm actually very happy. I've got all your necessary as far as money goes and the bio and all that so stay tuned.

Great.
Thanks :-)

I really am a wishy washy feller. I see your point now about the penis. But didn't quite like the way it was. Here's what I did.

I am converted over to the other side - are you okay with keeping it as-is in the latest maybe final draft (#4)?
(I've re-atached to this email.)
(We've exceeded the unity of opposites and are now on reversed sides. Funny.)
(Also please note that the use of certainty and surprise in this first paragraph below is highly intentional. I am attempting a poetic and lyrical contrast between 'maybe' and 'certainty'.)
