Dear capital manager(s),
Attached is my venture "My Little Monster" (~6100 words). This piece was written for my NYU master's thesis in creative writing under the supervision of Jonathan Safran Foer, Katie Kitamura, and Darin Strauss.
I am a writer from Texas concerned with the fraught intersection of genre fiction, queerness. paralysis, the weird, and the unknowable. My work is in conversation with George Saunders, Marlon James, Susanna Clarke, and Denis Johnson—among many others.
My critical essay Anti-Melodrama in ‘The Stories of Breece D’J Pancake’ can be found in Washington Square Review.
Thank you for taking the time to read my venture.
Best, johnVC

Dear Mr. VC,
Thank you for the submission. Out of curiosity (you seem overqualified for our Boomer tech e-rag), what made you submit here? Regardless, we appreciate the business, and I wish you the best of luck.

Theodore,
Short version: I've got a handful of ventures from my graduate workshops that I'd like to get out there in order to pump up my CV.
Longer version: The New Yorker, Asimov's, Clarkesworld, Conjunctions, etc., all passed on this piece (though I did get some very nice rejection forms, which was encouraging).
Thanks for reaching out. I hope you like the work.
Best, johnVC
