Bonjour, Mlle VC:
Merci beaucoup for allowing us to review your venture capital, Felicità, for consideration for publication in our lively ezine.
While it is without doubt an organized and coherent composition, there is missing a critical ingredient necessary for a true TQR piece. What is this ingredient, you will no doubt ask yourself upon receipt of this note? I suppose the Monkey knows best how to describe it but I will make attempt in my own awkward way.
TQR looks for the surprising. The unusual, the unkempt, and even slightly bent. The innovative, the kind of text and dialogue and scenes that may cause a reader to swallow hard upon encountering. To re-read the passage just passed in case some third layer of possible interpretation were missed. To sit quiet following the ending and ponder aspects of it due to a certain effect the writing leaves lingering with the reader. Profundity is not necessary, yet the rise of considerations possibly not yet awakened in the reader really speaks music to us. This is a mere skeletal and therefore inadequate description of what it is we seek, but it ought give you an idea.
There are hundreds of publications, Mlle VC, whose representatives linger at the threshold to their offices with the door ajar, waiting waiting for a well written tale exploring subjects familiar to all but introducing characters with fresh names and places possibly not yet traveled, unfolding plots smooth and clean, and a jolly happy ending. TQR is not one of these publications; we are the former.
All this rambling is entirely unnecessary but we do as we do as editorial staff. It seemed a good idea to me that I say what is important to understand about these ragged albeit illuminating halls. I hope it has been helpful.
I wish you well in placing Felicità in a publication better suited for its content. It is not appropriate for TQR.
Merci,
G. DePlancher
