Roka's a typical Arachnean teenager: she loves hanging out with her boyfriend Pel on MindNet, and she relishes the human meat her parents cook for her. So when Pel introduces her to Duncan, a telepathic human who shows her the horrors of the meat industry, she doesn't know what to think. She's paid attention to her history lessons. She knows that, in the millions of years after the Great Destruction, humans devolved and moved underground, while spiders developed into her own intelligent, telepathic Arachnean species. Arachneans use humans for their meat. That's just the way it is.
Because of her love for Pel and through his support for her growing awareness, she decides to defy her parents – and herself – and become a vegan. Despite her strong resolve, she’s met with an obstacle she hadn’t anticipated.
“The Road to Shambhala”, about 7,800 words, is the tale of a young woman’s personal growth from black-and-white ideology to the real world in shades of grey. While its subject is serious, its tone is light, often funny, and readers will identify effortlessly with Roka and her struggle. I’m confident that it will be a good fit for TQR, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, jane VC
