A brilliant arrow to the heart of the matter these days of heresiac inversion. Real literature speaks to eternal truths of the human condition, holding a mirror up for all to see (tricking even those who do not wish to see or who tell themselves there are no universal truths in the first place) the reflection of our subconscious mind where it is still impossible for us to lie to our most elemental selves.
I am reminded of Cassandra, the woman whose fate it was to see disasters on the horizon who's warning went unheeded by those she warned and then, when the disaster befell them it was, she, Cassandra, for which the disaster of which she had been warning her neighbors to prepare for, was blamed. Catch-22 is another offshoot of this concept. The VC of WANAD takes our real-life controllers own trick of 'inversion' to set up the anti-Cassandra, a man who sees the lies of the TV Oracles' and tries to warn his neighbors of their terrible track record, pleading with them to not allow themselves to be controlled by fear because the Talking Heads have told them of their impending doom. The narrative plays out to a predictable conclusion that, on another level proves that we all are doomed to live in a hell of no logic or reason, a real life matrix that is maintained because the sheep are content to be sheep and have forgotten that they were descended from wolves who had paid for the liberty of the modern day libertines with blood.
The most devastating insight of WANAD, let me reiterate, is that we are indeed all doomed by the fact we have become mindless drones led by the nose by Oracles who dance us on the strings of their blind assertions, giving lip service to the bromides of public safety and the common weal when it is convenient for them to do so and that, when their predictions fall flat and are exposed as the instruments of mass control they most obviously were in the first place, we, the herd, are so easily distracted by the next outrage, forgetting in the margin of the attention span time of a goldfish, that the previous outrage was a lie for which no one will ever be held to account.
The most devastating insight of WE ARE NOT ALL DOOMED is that, in fact, we are all doomed. Doomed by our apathy and indifference to the fact that the Profits of Doom are charlatans who only wish is to control us, and we willingly bow down to the idol of their lies of doom.
It is not a happy ending, but there is comfort in knowing that, unlike most of our neighbors and all those who continue to give credence to the lies they have and are still selling, that there is at least another human being who is suffering the mental dislocation and anguish of the constant gaslighting that the majority is willing to believe because of the fallacy of the conjecture that if enough people believe something (no matter the evidence to the contrary), it must be true.
This cap is the real deal and proof of the necessity of art to the maintenance of a society, if only to show historians that there were a tiny percentage of people who actually understood why that previous society crumbled.
